WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
It's difficult to take your shape to the next level when all of the components aren't working together. If the exercises you're doing don't consider the type of shape you want to build, and your nutrition isn't set up to support that progress, you're fighting an uphill battle. For example, I've had many ladies who are training hard and want to build their glutes, but they don't have exercises targeting their glutes. I've also seen ladies who want to build muscle, but aren't tracking their weight progressions.
It's not just about optimizing training for the goals, nutrition needs to be considered in the equation too. Without optimal nutrition, you could be checking the box on your training, but it would be difficult to build muscle without eating enough during that time period.
You want all of your efforts working together to get better results. Imagine a football team where there were no assigned plays and no assigned defense or offense teams. When the play started, everyone just went all out and did their best - it would be chaotic and almost impossible to score. Instead, in professional football, every play is very intentional and well thought out and every person considers what the other teammate is doing. Football is not just a game of effort, they have to work smart.
This goes the same for being fit, you want your training, nutrition, and goals all on the same team and you want them to be smart.
SIGNS YOUR TRAINING, NUTRITION, AND GOALS NEED TO BE ALIGNED:
You flip between goals of building muscle and improving performance one week, and then decreasing body fat the next.
You find yourself dissapointed after months of effort and still not where you'd hope you'd be.
You don't strategically eat before and after your workouts.
You don't track your weights in the gym.
You've been in a calorie deficit eating 1,200/1,500 calories while also in a strength block.
You add in random workouts or exercises at the end of your training.
You're ambitious! You're already putting in a lot of effort and you're not afraid to try new nutrition approaches or put in more work in the gym.
You’re not new to nutrition and weight lifting. You’re great at executing, but clearly your knowledge and/or strategy behind the execution are not quite getting you the results you want. And they should considering you are working soooo hard to get them.
The good news is you don’t need to work even harder, you need to work smarter.
To create a shape that looks like you workout, where you're fit inside and out, you need to stop the random efforts and implement a science based plan where every effort has a purpose.
THE SOLUTION
There is a science to building muscle and decreasing body fat and having Aligned Training is a key piece. At a certain point, effort, and consistency only get you so far. When you plateau or want to take your shape to the next level, the missing piece is specificity & coordinated efforts. Having a training plan that aligns to the shape you're building means there is measurable progress, and the calories and macros are paired with a specific training block. This may not mean you need a new workout program, but how you approach your current workouts and how you're pairing your nutrition with those workouts you're already doing.
With Aligned Training, all efforts with your workout and nutrition should be mapped out in a strategy spanning over months (~4 mths), some efforts are more important than others depending on the timing and the month. Every effort should be considered for how it fits within your overall strategy. (PS This kind of aligned strategy is what elite athletes and bikini competitors follow, and it can be applied at every level of nutrition/fitness). Typically for my clients, Aligned Training means doing LESS, but doing it with more intention.
